Moses was 120 years old when he died, yet his eyesight was clear, and he was as strong as ever. Deut 34:7 (NLT)
— Consider these final words describing Moses life: “But since then there has not arisen a prophet like Moses, whom the Lord knew face to face” (Deut 34:10).
As you study through the life of Moses, you wouldn’t think it would end this way, described as a man unparalleled by any other man. He had such an intimate relationship with God. One so close that it’s described as knowing him ‘face to face’. WOW!
Yes it’s true, Moses’ life started as a miraculous rescue by God Himself! How many of us can really say that we were miraculously saved by God? All of us!
How many of us can really say that we were miraculously saved by God? All of us! Share on XYet, he spent the first 40 years of his life building up a sense of self-confidence, self-reliance, and self-assurance that eventually led him to take things into his own hands by killing an Egyptian. It was an epic failure. A failure of the highest degree.
The next 40 years of his life was lived in relative obscurity caring for and tending sheep. After he killed the Egyptian, taking things into his own hands, he fled to the desert where he served alone, isolated, without any attention or people to serve. It was during that time that Moses learned how God desires selflessness not selfishness. He learned the lessons of abiding and allowing God to do His work. He learned the value of allowing God the time to complete His will and not taking things into your own hands. When the time came, God calls Moses to use him to lead the children of Israel out of Egypt up to the border of the promised land.
It was during the desert time that Moses learned how God desires selflessness not selfishness. Share on XIn total, the last 40 years of Moses life were incredibly fruitful. He didn’t slow down. Earlier in Deuteronomy 34 it says that Moses was 120 years old and his eyes were not dim nor his natural vigor diminished. He was older, but a young man at heart toward His God!!!
I want to live the last 40 years of my life sold out for God. Since I don’t know when the last 40 years of my life will be, I’ve translated that desire to just totally living for Him today!
I want to live the last 40 years of my life sold out for God. Share on XMy hope is that you’ll reconsider your commitments today too. Imagine the things you will be used to do in His name, for His glory, in His will!
For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing. 2 Tim 4:6-8 (NKJV)
Finish well my friend. Please, finish well.
God is always with me. Through sin and good times with him. God is showing me his love through my life, sinful times and times so inlove with him. But God never left me, he was always there, trying to guide me love me, direct me. My life with him, and things that happened that were not good, but God was there.
yes Janet. He loves us so much, more than we can really understand or take in. I’m so grateful that even if I am faithless, He remains faithful!
I likely don’t have 40 years left (I’d be 98!) God only knows. What I do know is that the first 58 years have not been what I would have wanted them to be. I lean heavily on Joel 2:25 and am anxiously (and rather impatiently at times) waiting for that promise to be fulfilled in my life.
You’re right, we don’t know how many years we have left, but with what we have, oh that the later years will be more fruitful than the younger years!
I am alive because of God. Jesus, please help me to trust you more and more, completely!! As I continue to decrease, I pray you will increase all the more in my life. Thank you for my husband, my children and grandchildren. Thank you for strength daily and I pray for more and more wisdom and discernment. Please guide every thought and action throughout this day. Thank you Jesus
“I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.
John 15:5 (NKJV)
I am thinking that if we live each day with greatness, then greatness will mark our last day. How desperately I need Jesus to help me with this until my final breath!
Thank you Pastor Ed for this being a faithful shepherd and sending out this encouragement.
