In good times and bad, happy times and sad, easy times and difficult, and especially in times like these, we know that the Lord is Good. Sure, this truth may be clouded by pain, by suffering, by hardships. There are always those temptations to doubt the truthfulness of God. Our response is one of pressing into the truth that “we know the Lord is good”. We know it! It’s settled. It’s foundational.
1 Chronicles 16:34–35 (NLT) “Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good! His faithful love endures forever. Cry out, “Save us, O God of our salvation! Gather and rescue us from among the nations, so we can thank your holy name and rejoice and praise you.”
Of course it’s easy to praise the Lord when things are going well and lining up just the way we planned. We’re so quick to say, “praise the Lord” and “Hallelujah God is so good to me”! We have no problem thinking of the goodness of God when we get a raise, when our family is healthy, when springtime comes and winter ends!
Exodus 34:6 (NKJV) “And the Lord passed before him and proclaimed, “The Lord, the Lord God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abounding in goodness and truth,”
BUT THERE ARE THOSE TIMES when it’s very difficult to affirm that God is good because my circumstances can change so fast and things can become so difficult that I simply don’t believe God is good any longer and don’t want to say it all. These are real feelings. We begin to doubt the goodness of God!
Let’s take a journey through Nahum 1 and learn of the goodness of God together!
