Have you ever wondered who’s watching you? Oh, not in a weird way, but in a positive way. Countless men and women look to you and me as examples to follow in living life. As believers, we become examples to so many wanting to grow in Christ. In my own walk with Jesus, this truth has helped to really stay close to Jesus. I love Him. I love you. I want to be an example that can followed toward Him.

Ephesians 5:15–20 (NLT) “So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise. Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days. Don’t act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do. Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, and making music to the Lord in your hearts. And give thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Your life matters to so many others, even if today you don’t really feel that way.

No matter how you feel, please, choose to avoid a careless life.

Yet, so many today are careless spiritually. It’s heartbreaking.  What does carelessness look like?

  1. You avoid reading the Bible regularly.
  2. You neglect prayer.
  3. You devalue fellowship with other believers.
  4. You live with hypocrisy in your life.
  5. You flirt with sin.
  6. Your habits lead you away from Jesus.

A careless life is a dangerous life, not only for others but especially for you. Ask anyone that has backslidden how they got there. How did they get so far away from God so quickly?  Whatever their story is. Whatever their testimony is. Whatever sin they got into. Whatever gross immorality was a part of their rebellion?  Whatever it is, I’m pretty confident the root of it was carelessness toward the things of God. That’s how it started.

They never thought it would get that bad. They never thought they would go so far away. It started with a careless attitude and grew from there.

Take the time to cultivate your relationship with Jesus. Invest your life in the things of God. Put the necessary guards around your life to resist temptation.

Romans 13:11–14 (NLT) “This is all the more urgent, for you know how late it is; time is running out. Wake up, for our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. The night is almost gone; the day of salvation will soon be here. So remove your dark deeds like dirty clothes, and put on the shining armor of right living. Because we belong to the day, we must live decent lives for all to see. Don’t participate in the darkness of wild parties and drunkenness, or in sexual promiscuity and immoral living, or in quarreling and jealousy. Instead, clothe yourself with the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ. And don’t let yourself think about ways to indulge your evil desires.”

How do you cultivate a strong spiritual life?

  1. Choose to read your Bible daily.
  2. Choose to pray daily, moment by moment.
  3. Choose to attend your church services and small groups regularly.
  4. Choose to live a truthful and honest life daily.
  5. Choose to reject sin daily. Don’t mess around it.
  6. Develop habits that bring you closer to Jesus.

We don’t know what will come against us spiritually or what we’ll face when we wake up in the morning. Because we don’t know, we stay close to our Lord and Savior.

Spiritual carelessness is so dangerous. Live your spiritual life carefully.
