We recently celebrated 25 years of faithful ministry here in Aurora. It was a glorious night of worship, testimony, and reflection on the faithfulness of God.
In July, 1999, my little family of 5 picked up everything we owned and moved to Colorado with the hopes of being used by God to see a new church planted. Why Aurora, Colorado? It would be easy to say that the city has a population of over 400k, and there is always a need. Yet we can say the Lord arranged and orchestrated that we move here, undeniably so. When we arrived, there was a group already meeting for the previous 6 months, and in God’s perfecting, the pastoral leadership of that precious group of men and women, boys and girls, was given to me. It was an exciting, albeit scary, time.
We quickly found a school that would rent to us and launched our first Sunday morning service on December 26, 1999, our new birthday as Calvary Chapel Aurora. There is a glorious timeline of the ups and downs of ministry here, but what’s most exciting is the future! God has done great things in the past, but what will He do for the future? We want to discover and be a part of all He’s doing on the earth today.
We like to say here at Calvary that “We love the past, but We live the future.”
We celebrate what God has done in our past to prepare for what He is doing now and on into the future until He returns!
Deuteronomy 11:7-9 (NKJV) “but your eyes have seen every great act of the LORD which He did. Therefore you shall keep every commandment which I command you today, that you may be strong, and go in and possess the land which you cross over to possess 9 “and that you may prolong your days in the land which the LORD swore to give your fathers, to them and their descendants, a land flowing with milk and honey.’
It’s fun to look back and see all the Lord has done. He has repeatedly shown Himself faithful. But a new land is still ahead, and we must look forward. The past cannot hinder us from moving forward with the Lord! Remember what God has done, but keep seeking what God wants to do.
God is not done here at Calvary. He’s not done with you. Choose to yield your life to him in deeper surrender and obedience today! He’s worth it!
Joshua 3:4 (NKJV) “Yet there shall be a space between you and it, about two thousand cubits by measure. Do not come near it, that you may know the way by which you must go, for you have not passed this way before.”
