There you are struggling again. It’s painful and hard. You’re even getting tired of it all and are wondering when it all will end. Where is God, you ask?

Psalm 38:21–22 (NKJV) “Do not forsake me, O Lord; O my God, be not far from me! Make haste to help me, O Lord, my salvation!”

You’ve learned by now that Jesus doesn’t always reveal His power by removing the troubles and difficulties from your life. Most of the time, He shows His strength by holding us steady as we live through the pain.

I think of a dear believer whose body is weak and full of pain. Every breath hurts. Every movement costs her something. It’s been one long, excruciating battle. Yet she’s cheerful. She doesn’t complain. In fact, she often tries to hide her pain so she can focus on others. When she does speak of her suffering, it’s with a calm acceptance that can only come from God. She says things like, “The Lord has been good to me.” She means every word.

Psalm 34:19 (NKJV) “Many are the afflictions of the righteous, But the Lord delivers him out of them all.”

That’s what amazes me. It’s not surprising when strong people speak strong words. But when the hurting speak with hope, that’s the power of God. When someone who has every reason to quit keeps trusting, that’s Jesus showing Himself strong in weakness.

Paul said it best: “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness” (2 Corinthians 12:9). Great trials draw out great strength.  We become weaker so God can reveal His strength in and through us.

Maybe you’re in one of those seasons right now. You don’t have much left in you, and you’re wondering how long you can keep going. Remember this: God is holding you. His strength will carry you. And in the middle of it all, His glory will boldly shine through your weakness.

Psalm 34:6 (NKJV) “This poor man cried out, and the Lord heard him, And saved him out of all his troubles.”
