We are living in some really hard and horrible times. According to the Bible, it’s only going to get darker and darker. The Bible teaches us that there are seasons when darkness seems to spread quickly. It causes even the strongest of believers to be confused and dismayed.  In times like these, truth becomes harder to find as many people begin to wonder if God is still at work. The Bible reminds us that He is. Oh yes, He is!

Isaiah 59:19 (NKJV) When the enemy comes in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord will lift up a standard against him.”

God has always raised up voices of truth in dark times. He does not abandon His people. So often when Israel walked away from Him, He sent prophets to speak clearly and boldly. One of those men was Elijah.

After the reigns of Saul, David, and Solomon, the nation of Israel became divided. The kingdom was split into the north and the south. Division always ruins, and the unity that Israel once enjoyed was lost. The leadership failed, and their worship of the one true God became idolatrous and was destroyed. As the people wandered further from the Lord, and things continued to deteriorate, God was at work. It was during this difficult season that God raised up Elijah to stand for truth.

Elijah did not come from a place of power or influence. He came, powerfully, with a strong, direct message from God. God used him to stand firm when the nation was silent and rebellious. Elijah was God’s faithful servant, reminding a nation that He was still the true and living God.

This is encouraging for us today. When things seem dark and getting worse and worse, God is not absent. He is working. He is preparing and raising up men of truth who will speak the truth into the void of darkness and lies.

He may even be calling you to stand faithfully where you are.

Psalm 27:1 (NKJV) The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?

Trust that God knows exactly what He is doing, even when times are difficult.

Oh, and listen to the voices God has sent into your life, especially the voice of the Word of God!
