There is a reason the New Testament is filled with the phrase “one another.” God designed us to walk with Him and with each other.
We were not made to live in isolation. The Christian life is not meant to be lived alone. God truly wants us to live our lives in deep community with others. This is where love is shown, burdens are shared, and encouragement is given.
Even when it’s hard, and I know for some of you reading this, this is a harder season than others. Yet, living out our lives in Christian community is not just for times when it’s convenient and easy; often, it requires humility, obedience, and surrender. Jesus is our best example!
Recently, the phrase “one another” jumped out at me as I was reading my devos. Here are a few I looked up:
Love one another.
“This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you” (John 15:12, NKJV).
“But concerning brotherly love you have no need that I should write to you, for you yourselves are taught by God to love one another” (1 Thessalonians 4:9, NKJV).
“Since you have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit in sincere love of the brethren, love one another fervently with a pure heart” (1 Peter 1:22, NKJV).
Build up one another.
“Therefore let us pursue the things which make for peace and the things by which one may edify another” (Romans 14:19, NKJV).
“Therefore comfort each other and edify one another, just as you also are doing” (1 Thessalonians 5:11, NKJV).
Accept one another.
“Therefore receive one another, just as Christ also received us, to the glory of God” (Romans 15:7, NKJV).
Care for one another.
“That there should be no schism in the body, but that the members should have the same care for one another” (1 Corinthians 12:25, NKJV).
Serve one another.
“For you, brethren, have been called to liberty; only do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another” (Galatians 5:13, NKJV).
Bear one another’s burdens.
“Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ” (Galatians 6:2, NKJV).
Be kind to one another.
“And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you” (Ephesians 4:32, NKJV).
Comfort one another.
“Therefore comfort one another with these words” (1 Thessalonians 4:18, NKJV).
Encourage one another.
“Therefore comfort each other and edify one another, just as you also are doing” (1 Thessalonians 5:11, NKJV).
“But exhort one another daily, while it is called ‘Today,’ lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin” (Hebrews 3:13, NKJV).
The phrase “one another” is used over 100 times in the Bible. The New Testament is filled with these reminders because we need them. Life in the Spirit is not just about personal growth; it is about the Spirit working through us to bless and serve others. The fruit of the Spirit, love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control, is on display for all to enjoy.
Take this little encouragement to reach out to one another. God is ready to use you. Jump in and reach out.
