Whatever You Do Grow in Grace

The Bible has a lot to say about the glorious grace of God. You could say that grace is mentioned from Genesis 1:1 all the way through the last verse of the Bible in Revelation 22:21.  Every page drips with the precious anointing of our God who reaches down to our level to reach us out of love.  All that God does is by His grace, His unmerited favor toward man.

There are three words we often read of in relation to one another: judgment, mercy, and grace.

Judgment is getting what we deserve.
Mercy is not getting what we deserve.
Grace is getting what we don’t deserve.

Pastor Chuck Smith writes:

Whatever you do, “grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ” (2 Peter 3:18). I cannot overemphasize the importance of the role that grace plays in every aspect of our lives. When it becomes obvious that I have not made as much progress in holiness as God desires, grace fills the distance between where I am and where I should be, and draws me forward. Grace makes what is  impossible for me by my own strength, not only possible but also much easier than I could have imagined. It is true that sometimes grace enables us to labor “more abundantly” than others, but it is also sufficient for us when weakness or pain prevents us from doing all that we wish we could be doing (1 Corinthians 15:10; 2 Corinthians 12:9).

We would do well to take Pastor Chuck’s advice. Whatever we do, let’s grow in the grace of God.

Legalism kills. Grace gives life.
