There will come a day when each of us will stand before the Lord. That day is coming sooner than we might think, and when it does, we will either stand guilty in our sins or innocent in Christ.
It is wise to stop and ask ourselves, Is my spiritual house in order? Am I ready to meet the Lord?
I was reminded of Paul’s stirring words to the believers in Rome:
Romans 14:12 (NKJV) “So then each of us shall give account of himself to God.”
How important it is to live our lives with eternity in view. It is easy to get caught up in the routines and pressures of life. We can go from day to day, thinking there will always be more time to get things right with God or with others. But the truth is, there is no guarantee of tomorrow.
Amos 4:12 (NKJV) “Therefore thus will I do to you, O Israel; Because I will do this to you, Prepare to meet your God, O Israel!”
Prepare! Please take this seriously. The time to set our spiritual house in order is right now. If your relationship with the Lord has grown cold, today is the day to return to Him. If there is sin that needs to be confessed, today is the day to lay it down before Him. If there are broken relationships that need to be healed, today is the day to seek forgiveness and restoration.
God is gracious to give us opportunities to get things right. He does not call us to live in fear, but He does call us to live ready. Ready to meet Him. Ready to walk in obedience. Ready to leave behind the things that hinder us from fully following Jesus. Ready to live each day in the light of eternity.
You may be carrying regrets about the past, but the Lord is able to redeem what has been lost.
You may be dealing with fear about the future, but the Lord is your strength and your hope.
You may feel overwhelmed by what needs to change, but remember that God is patient and faithful to help you.
Romans 8:1 (NKJV) “There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.”
In Christ, we can walk in freedom and confidence, knowing that He has paid the price for our sins and has given us a new life.
There is a peace that comes when you know your spiritual house is in order. It is not a peace rooted in your efforts or your goodness, but in the finished work of Jesus on your behalf. It is a peace that allows you to live each day fully, loving your family well, serving others with joy, and trusting God with every detail of your life.
Take time to pray, to seek Him, and to surrender whatever needs to be surrendered.
When the day comes for us to stand before Him, may we be found ready, with hearts that have been made clean by His grace, lives that have been lived in faithfulness, and a peace that comes from walking closely with Jesus.
May we be able to say with confidence, “Lord, I am ready.”
I hope I hear:
Matthew 25:21 (NKJV) “His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.’
